Once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell to Earth and became a golden flower filled with incredible healing abilities. A sorceress named Mother Gothel used the flower, and a healing incantation, to keep herself young for hundreds of years. Centuries later, the queen of the nearby kingdom of Corona was pregnant but very sick, so the king sent out knights to find the legendary flower. Though Gothel tried to hide the flower, the knights found it and brought it back to Corona to use as a medicine to heal the Queen. When the royal baby, a princess, was born, the princess was born with beautiful golden hair that possessed healing properties. Gothel kidnapped the baby, Rapunzel, and raised her as her own. The King and Queen of Corona honored the missing princess year after year by releasing lanterns on her birthday. Year after year, Rapunzel watched the lanterns from her window in Mother Gothel’s tower, where she would heal Gothel’s youth by using her hair and the healing incantation. On the day before her 18th birthday, Rapunzel requested that she be allowed to go see the lanterns in person. Gothel refused and instead went to get Rapunzel expensive white paint that Rapunzel would decorate her room with. While Gothel was gone, the thief Flynn Ryder who had stolen the missing princesses’ tiara, entered the tower. Though Rapunzel hated him at first, she convinced Flynn to take her to see the lanterns in person by promising to give him the tiara. Flynn, in an attempt to double cross her, took her to The Snuggly Duckling which was a ruffians bar. Instead, Rapunzel made new friends before she and Flynn had to run from the guards chasing Flynn as well as the thieves Flynn had double crossed. After a cave in, Rapunzel saved her own and Flynn’s lives which made the two fall in love. After having a nice day in town, the two watched the lanterns together. Afterwards, Rapunzel gave Flynn the tiara. Flynn was going to put everything right and give the tiara back but he ended up imprisoned because of Gothel. Gothel convinced Rapunzel that Flynn was using her and she returned home depressed. However, after noticing that she had been drawing the royal symbol of Corona in all of her paintings, Rapunzel realized the truth and turned on Gothel. Flynn arrived to try and save her, only to get stabbed. Before she could heal him, Flynn cut Rapunzel’s hair so that it could never be used for evil again.
As Rapunzel was forced to watch the love of her life die, Chernabog’s curse hit and she was turned into Nolee Haar.
Nolee never knew her real parents, instead she was adopted by the single Gothel. Nolee was well liked by her classmates but spent a lot of time at home to keep her mother happy by doing chores around the house. After high school graduation, Nolee spent time doing work with the children in hospitals which is how she decided that she wanted to work at Belle’s bookstore.
